Differences Between Cerakote and Traditional Paint

  1. Composition

    • Traditional paint: Primarily composed of resin and solvents, making it more brittle and less wear-resistant.

    • Cerakote: Contains ceramic particles, providing superior hardness and durability.

  2. Coating Thickness

    • Cerakote coatings are approximately 0.001 inches (25 microns) thick, ensuring minimal impact on part tolerances, unlike powder coatings, which are generally thicker.

  3. Durability

    • Scratch & Wear Resistance: Cerakote is at least 10 times more durable than regular paint.

    • Corrosion Resistance: Outperforms stainless steel in salt spray tests, making it ideal for humid or coastal environments.

    • High-Temperature Resistance: Some Cerakote coatings can withstand temperatures up to 980°C (1800°F), making them suitable for firearm barrels, exhaust systems, and other heat-exposed components.
